SARE Local Education and Demonstration (LED) Grants

What it funds
LED grants translate prior SARE-funded research into local, hands-on demonstrations and educational activities for producers and agricultural professionals — the program’s premise is explicitly “take proven technology, show it publicly, teach adoption.” Fundable activities: local demonstrations, trainings, focus groups, technical assistance, development of educational materials, and facilitating farmer/rancher/Extension/agency application of results.
Eligibility and process
Farmers, ranchers, researchers, Extension agents/educators, and graduate students are eligible. Grants are regional (North Central, Northeast, Southern, Western SARE run separate cycles), applications go through an online portal, and a Technical Review Panel reviews submissions.
Constraints
SARE grants explicitly cannot fund farm startup costs or large capital purchases — relevant if pitching the Double Play container build itself versus its educational programming component.
Timing
Western SARE’s most recent LED cycle deadline was Nov 20, 2025 (Mountain Time); regional offices (e.g. wsare-info@sare.org) take direct applicant questions and announce reopening via email list.
