Summary

The quantitative planning guide for selecting and sizing passive solar systems in USAF commercial facilities. Walks through a 10-step process: determine climate region → establish building type → determine conventional energy use → determine peak demand → choose passive solar systems → determine passive energy savings → determine energy costs → HVAC analysis.

The 11 passive solar concepts from Vol. I (four heating, two cooling, five daylighting) are applied here to 18 building types across multiple climate regions, with worked examples for a Credit Union and a Warehouse.

Relevance to the archive

Same institutional framework as Vol. I — no mention of Hay, Baer, Zomeworks, or roof ponds. Cooling approaches remain air-based (NMV, NVN). The Appendix D energy cost data is the most potentially useful section — it quantifies passive cooling savings by region, which could be compared against the NSRC data (2006) for New Mexico. Not yet read in detail.
